What it is
The Department of Education (DepEd) has expanded its main learning recovery effort by introducing ARAL Mathematics and implementing flexible tutoring models in public schools nationwide. This expansion is guided by DepEd Memorandum No. 060, s. 2026, which enforces the Republic Act 12028 or the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program Act. The program has been broadened from focusing on foundational reading to covering essential numeracy skills for students in Grades 1 through Grade 10.
Key points
- ARAL Mathematics will address learning gaps from Grade 1 to Grade 10 using diagnostic profiling through the Rapid Mathematics Assessment (RMA).
- Tutors will monitor student progress using an Individual Mathematics Intervention Plan (IMIP) to ensure focused support.
- Flexible delivery methods are being adopted, allowing schools to offer face-to-face, online, or blended tutoring.
- Tutoring sessions can be scheduled during class pull-out times, outside of class hours, or on weekends.
- Each tutoring group is limited to 10 to 15 students per tutor to ensure adequate attention.
- Sessions are limited to one hour on regular class days, while weekend sessions for multi-shift schools may last up to two hours.
Who is affected
The program applies to all public schools across the country. The focus of ARAL Mathematics covers learners from Grade 1 up to Grade 10.
What teachers should do
The national implementation of this expanded program is planned to begin in Term 2 of School Year 2026–2027, allowing schools time to arrange staffing, materials, and schedules.
